Jungle Hikes
Overview
Step into one of the most biodiverse ecosystems on Earth with our interpretive jungle hikes. Guided by a local naturalist, you’ll discover the extraordinary variety of life that surrounds Sandoval Lake Lodge inside Tambopata National Reserve.
During the walk you’ll experience primary rainforest almost untouched by logging, with giant trees that can be hundreds of years old, living liana “bridges” and a forest floor full of tiny insects, fungi and amphibians.
Your guide will explain how local communities use medicinal plants, how species interact and how this complex system stays in balance. More than a simple walk, this hike is a live lesson in biology, ecology and Amazonian traditional knowledge.
Places visited
- Primary rainforest trails around Lake Sandoval
- Observation spots for endemic plants and giant trees
- Areas with chances to see monkeys, birds and small mammals
- Microhabitats for insects, fungi and frogs
- Forest clearing where traditional plant uses are demonstrated
